Implementation Methodology
The implementation of the Business Plan involves:
- Conducting targeted experiments to evaluate non-chemical methods of combating the most significant bee parasites, Varroa destructor and Nosema.
- Evaluating the impact of protein-based nutrition on bee health. This assessment will be carried out through measurements of parameters such as bee population and brood, bee weight, honey production, Varroa levels in brood and bees, and Nosema spore counts.
Therefore, this Operational Plan will be implemented through the following actions:
- Assessing the importance of bee parasites at the regional level in Crete.
- Evaluating non-chemical methods of combating Varroa destructor and Nosema.
- Studying the impact of protein-based nutrition on bee health parameters.
- Drafting and evaluating a comprehensive bee protection plan without the use of chemical substances.
- Disseminating the results.
Overall, 6 different experiments will be conducted in beehives to evaluate non-chemical treatment methods and the impact of protein-based nutrition. Each intervention will be tested on 3 beehives, a sufficient number for obtaining reliable results and conducting statistical analysis. Additionally, 3 beekeepers will implement the Integrated Management Plan to evaluate its practical effectiveness. The conclusions will be applicable, at least, to Crete.
